Kenneth J. Dover

Sir Kenneth James Dover (1920-2010) became a Fellow and tutor at the University of Oxford in 1948. He became professor of Greek at the University of St. Andrews in 1955. Dover was educated at St. Paul's School and Balliol College, Oxford. Dover received a knighthood in 1977 for his contributions to Greek scholarship; he also received honorary degrees from the Universities of Oxford, St. Andrews, Birmingham, Briston, London, Durham, Liverpool, and Oglethorpe. Dover was president of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, from 1976 until 1986. Dover authored numerous books, including Theocritus: Select Poems (Macmillan Education, 1971; reprinted by Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 1985, 1987), Greek Homosexuality (Harvard University Press, 1978), Greek Popular Morality in the Time of Plato and Aristotle (University of California Press, 1974), Aristophanic Comedy (University of California Press, 1972), and Greek Word Order (Cambridge University Press, 1960).
