John P. Murphy, SJ (1938-2017) was associate professor of classics and chair at Loyola University of Chicago and the former Secretary to the Superior General of the Jesuit Order in Rome. Murphy coauthored with James J. Mertz, SJ and Jozef IJsewijn Jesuit Latin Poets of the 17th and 18th Centuries (Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 1989).
