Ronnie Ancona, PhD

Ronnie Ancona is professor of classics at Hunter College and The Graduate Center (City University of New York), and for twenty years directed Hunter's MA program in the Teaching of Latin. Ancona received her BA and MA from the University of Washington and her PhD from Ohio State University. Ancona served as the American Philological Association Vice President for Education from 2010 to 2014 and won the APA Award for Excellence in Teaching at the College Level in 2009. Her research interests include Latin lyric poetry, women in Greece and Rome, and Latin pedagogy. Ancona is the author of Time and the Erotic in Horace's Odes (Duke University Press Books, 1994) and Horace: Selected Odes and Satire 1.9 (Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 1999, 2nd ed. 2005), coeditor of Gendered Dynamics in Latin Love Poetry (Jouns Hopkins University Press, 2005), editor of A Concise Guide to Teaching Latin Literature (University of Oklahoma Press, 2007), and coauthor of A Horace Workbook (Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 2005) and Horace: A LEGAMUS Transitional Reader (Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 2008). She is coeditor of a series on women in antiquity from Oxford University Press (formerly Routledge), and editor of the Bolchazy-Carducci Latin Reader series.
