Joe Goodkin

Joe Goodkin received a BA in classics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Goodkin has extensive experience in teaching private music lessons and in writing and performing original rock and acoustic music. Drawing on this background, he has created The Odyssey: A Folk Opera, a unique interpretation of The Odyssey that tells the epic story in song, invoking the spirit of the ancient Greek bards who originally brought forth the timeless stories of Odysseus and the heroes of the Trojan War. Goodkin has performed The Odyssey: A Folk Opera at schools, colleges, and conferences around the United States.

This folk opera of nine tracks, 24 songs, interprets the story of The Odyssey in song, invoking the spirit of the Ancient Greek bards who originally brought forth the timeless story. The Odyssey consists of 24 short songs sung by Joe Goodkin while playing the acoustic guitar. The performance is continuous and runs around 30 mins. The Odyssey is especially suited for high school and college classes reading The Odyssey, but can be adapted for audiences of any age with any level of familiarity with the story.
