W. D. Lowe

William Douglas Lowe (1879-1922) studied classics at Pembroke College, Cambridge. He taught at University College, Dunham, from 1903 until the start of World War I, when he became an officer in the Dunham Light Infantry and later commanded the 18th Battalion, DLI. Following the war, Lowe returned to Dunham, where he remained until his death in 1922. Lowe coauthored with C. E. Freeman A Greek Reader for Schools (Clarendon Press, 1917; reprinted by Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers by arrangement with Oxford University Press, 1994, 2009) and Rome and Her Kings: Livy I: Graded Selections (Clarendon Press, 1920; reprinted by Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 2000) and authored Herodotus: The Wars of Greece and Persia (Oxford, 1913; reprinted by Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers, 1990).
